About Healthy Communities

Healthy Communities is a model Special Olympics Health program made possible by the Golisano Foundation. The program addresses the severe health disparities faced by people with intellectual disabilities through immediate and long-term solutions.

Through partnerships, fitness and wellness programs, as well as robust Healthy Athletes programming, dozens of Special Olympics locations throughout the world are paving the way for inclusive health.

As a leader in Healthy Communities, we at Special Olympics Ontario currently have 120+ Healthcare Professionals in our network providing access to healthcare in all Healthy Athletes domains such as:

Partners in Health are a group of healthcare professionals who are committed to improving access to healthcare for people with ID. The Partner in Health program is dedicated to training health professionals, workers and students in quality care and prevention for persons with ID.

How do Partner's become a part of the Partner in Health directory?
First and foremost, partners must be interested, open, and eager to work with and provide care to people with intellectual disabilities. Partnered clinicians must take a continuing education (CE) course consisting of a set of modules provided by Special Olympics Ontario, as well as watch a brief video on communicating with people with ID (approximately 2.5- 5 hours of professional development). Partners must be open to providing ODSP covered appointments (if applicable).
